Concert Reviews
It’s been said that Hoge seems to channel Bruce Springsteen in his music – well, tonight, he even looked like Bruce! Curly, longer hair, wearing the jeans and jacket with a hood…very Springsteen-esque. Will is touring in support of his latest album, Number Seven. One of my favorites from this new album is the single “When I Get My Wings”.

After all these years and some friction within the band, The Bangles really brought their A-game to The Egyptian Room in Indianapolis. These three ladies sure can rock out! While they were out touring in support of their latest album, they also couldn’t resist playing the old standards, like “Manic Monday”, “If She Knew What She Wants”, “He’s Got a Secret”, and to close out the night, the very fitting “Walk Like an Egyptian”.

I absolutely love the feel of Radio Radio when it’s set up as a listening room, so I was thrilled when we encountered this setup for the Tyrone Wells show. A few rows of folding chairs close to the stage, backed by the high-top tables and bar stools made this feel like a very intimate show with friends. This also lent itself to a very respectful audience, which was most likely Tyrone’s goal in arranging the seating in this configuration.

Brandi Carlile - "Live at Benaroya Hall"
Not that there was a single doubt in my mind, but this album really is incredible. It comes about as close as you can get to capturing the brilliance that is a Brandi Carlile show (though I’m still holding my breath for a live DVD). Including the curtain call as a track on the album really gives you that feeling of actually being there in a fancy theatre with the soaring curtains on stage, the buzz of anticipation for what you know will be an awe-inspiring performance palpable in that cavernous space....more
Adele - "21"
Adele’s sophomore album 21, available on February 22nd in the US, is a great follow-up to her debut album, 19. If you’re already an Adele fan, I’m surely not telling you anything you don’t already know when I mention how full of soul and emotion her voice is. It completely belies her age – you’d think she’s experienced a lifetime of heartache and disappointment. You can just about feel the underlying resentment and hurt feelings oozing out of this album....more
Brooke Fraser - "Flags"
Brooke Fraser’s latest album “Flags”, released on October 12, 2010, gripped me from the first few bars of the opening tune “Something in the Water”. It was like musical love at first sight – how is it that she hadn’t been on my radar before now? This Kiwi (that’s someone from New Zealand, if you weren’t aware) has been playing music in one form or another for most of her life....more
